Interview with Abdullah Madani

Saudi-Arabia have lit up the FPL World Cup so far with an incredible performance after eight gameweeks. They are averaging nearly an astounding 20 points more than second-placed England with the average overall rank of the five Saudi-Arabian managers being around 63k.

I caught up with Abdullah Madani (@anmadani) to ask him how his team have approached the competition:

AF: Firstly well done on an incredible start to the season! How does it feel to be sitting pretty at the summit of the FPL World Cup League after GW8?

AM: It’s still early but we think between the five of us we have well balanced teams that compliment each other with a few key differentials. It’s always good to be top and we look forward to continuing and maintaining our position.

AF: What do you attribute your team’s great start to?

AM: Our teams are quite different in terms of a few key players so if one doesn’t perform the other team picks up the slack and carries us forward.

AF: Does your team communicate or collaborate at all?

Believe it or not we don’t actually collaborate because we are in our own mini league going against each other. As long as you take care of your team and try and do what is best then we are banking on that carrying us all the way. Seems to be working so far.

AF: Do you feel your team is currently overperforming or can you carry on in this fashion for the rest of the season?

AM: It’s been a tricky start to the season and some very odd scoring fantasy game weeks but we don’t feel we are over performing at all. If anything we hope to pick up the scoring average after the international break

AF: How do you feel about the Trophy group draw?

AM: It will be interesting to see how it plays out and we look forward to finishing TOP of the group.

AF: What would your advice be to team’s who haven’t had the start they wanted?

Patience and stick to the original gameplan… it’s been a tricky start but ultimately if you have the right strategy in place it will come good and you should see the benefits soon.

AF: Many thanks Abdullah and good luck for the rest of the season!

Worryingly, it sounds like the Saudi-Arabians are only just getting into 2nd gear…

If you haven’t seen the Trophy Group Draw, it is here.
